What Parents Do

What Parents Do

Every once and a while a parent does something that makes them realize they made a right choice. Our daughter Kristin has had 3 surgeries in the last 4 weeks. She spent one 8 night, 9 day stretch in a hospital. I stayed a couple of nights and Cheryl stayed everyone. In her third trip to the OR and hospital, which began Thursday, May 5, Cheryl and I both spent the night.

I was in a chair by her bed, feeling quite weary. At 1 am she slipped her hand through the bed rail, grabbed my hand and said, "Thanks for staying, Dad." Right then I didn't need any more sleep that night.

I forgot my last post, and this one is going to be very short. I'm writing it in that same chair at 12:30 am. Cheryl's here being a mom; I'm here being a dad. Many of you readers have done and will do it. It's what parents do.

That is so right and true. I spent many a night and day in hospital with our Joshua and Johanna. It's all part of being a loving Mum and Dad.
God bless you and yours!!

It is what parents do and our kids mean so much to us, no matter what age. My dad came to live with us right before I was out of the hospital. He stayed for about 10 months total, helping me through part of my recovery. He took me to therapy and provided whatever care I needed. He slept on my couch the whole time.

God gives us the strength and is our refuge. (Psalm 46:1)

I am praying for your family.

well said, Warren. When Melissa was so ill with Malaria last year, i spent every moment they would let me in ICU. When I wasn't in the room, i was right outside the door just so i could be as close as i could. It's what parents do...

So glad that you are able to be there by your daughter's side.

I will continue to pray for Kristin's recovery.

Simple but powerful, Warren. As parents, we need to do the hard but important things. Sorry to hear of her many surgeries. Hopefully this will be the last.

May God give you all strength and supernatural rest as you walk through this trial.
